Background
Myanmar's military seized power in a coup in February 2021. Armed resistance groups and long-established ethnic armed organisations have since fought the military across much of the country.
Since late 2023, resistance forces have taken control of large areas, especially along the borders with China, India and Thailand, while the military has relied heavily on air strikes.
