Editor's take

North Korean testing of hypersonic vehicles is a signalling that is moving now from launching old mass produced ballistic missiles to more technologically advanced hypersonic technology. These missiles can manoeuvre at high speeds while flying at law altitudes intercepting western made missile defences in South Korea and Japan. Though this remains an important feat and does make DPRK's deterrent more capable it doesn't prove that it has a mature enough and capable hypersonic weapon.

1N. Korea's Kim oversees hypersonic missile launch, calls for bolstering war deterrent

Yonhap reports- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has overseen the launch of an intermediate-range strategic missile and called for continued efforts to bolster the "fatality" of the country's offensive weapons, state media reported Sunday.

Why it matters: It matters because it shows the continued efforts by Pyongyang to enhance its delivery systems to bolster its nuclear capabilities. It is important because the launch comes at the time when both the Koreas are exchanging accusations regarding mine blasts at the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) and it comes at a time when America under Trump has been reducing or trying to reduce American spending on large military exercises and aid.
